This song I'd Love to Change the World released by

Alvin Lee and Ten Years After in 1971

from the Album "A Space In Time" it is as revelant today as it was in 1971.

This song expresses many sentiments that I share with this generation that came of age a decade before I did and I've included it here as an example to show that the fight we fight today is a fight that we have fought before and will always need to fight.

Why I'm marching in the streets of Madison today, DC last week & anywhere else I think will help to effect a change.

When thinking about how to explain this I thought of the song “ I'd love to change the world” this song by Alvin Lee & Ten Years After says a lot. It's one of my favorite songs, aside from being phenomenal musically this song shows that we are still fighting the old fights & will likely always need to fight them. This song is appropriate for today since today is the day of peaceful global revolution led once again from a younger counter-culture generation, and thank God for that. Today people all over the world will be standing together to say we can do better than this and we must. The lyrics on this video have a few errors. The hairys are actually Hari's meaning followers of Hare Krishna & stop the war should be "we'll stop the war". This song is a conversation between the old generation WWII generation stating things like “Where is the sanity?” & “I'd love to change the world but I don't know what to do?” and the younger generation “Tax the rich feed the poor” and the phrase on this video that says end the war should actually read “We’ll end the war”. Sadly, the activism & activists of the 1960's & 1970's have been ridiculed & marginalized by the right for decades. In my opinion these lyrics show that we are now fighting for gains previously made, we are again having the same old fight, it’s just a different. Activism in the 60's & 70's was effective for a time in stopping US wars, building of Nuclear power plants, stemmed the tide of pollution & even reversed it a bit. The Peace Corps was created, women, minorities & workers forced advances in civil rights, environmental protections were put in place, toxic area's were cleaned up. The Cuyahoga River in Ohio was no longer on fire.

 Congressional Reform Act of 2011

 1.     No Tenure/No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

 2.     Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

 3.     Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

 4.     Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

 5.     Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

 6.     Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

 7.     All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

Don't you think it's time for the American People to tell our lawmakers to stop enriching themselves & corporations and to work for the welfare of our country and our people. Isn't it time to insist that we want change NOW & waiting for another election is not the answer. Express your opinion on this issue in the Political Fodder poll.

The proposal above was sent to me in an email claiming Warren Buffet to be the source that created this proposed Act. I do not know if this is trur or not, I really don't care. What I do care about is that I believe that this act could go a long way in stemming many of the problems our country is currently facing. If our elected officials can sign a plegde with Grover Norquist and stick with that pledge regardless of the harm done to American citizens we have to do something to make them legislate in the interest of the American people. I can see no reason that this plan woud not be acceptaable to any Americans other than those elected officials who it would effect.

The “law of attraction”, “abundance principal”, “The secret” or whatever other name is given to the philosophy of the universe providing promotes the premise that people should be accepting and grateful for their good fortune and try to learn from misfortune. On its face it sounds good, even wise. However there are two sides to every coin. The opposite side of this coin regardless of the name used is inaction, irresponsibility, narcissism and blame.

The abundance principal promotes concentrating on you, what you want and what you need. It promotes the idea that when you concentrate on what you want and ask the universe for what you want, it will be provided. What is missing is looking at the how these things are being provided and those who are suffering for others to receive their abundance. In fact these principals promote not worrying about where your abundance is coming from, they purport that people should just accept and appreciate that the universe is providing. Those things that supposedly manifest themselves come from actions taken, not the universe. These principals also promote concentrating only on positives and cutting out all negatives, they even go as far as stating that you must ignore the negative or you will make negative things grow. These actions may make you happier but it doesn’t make them right or make you a better person. While cutting out all of the negatives may work well for an individual, it does not work too well for a society. Negative conditions that exist for people that the universe does not provide for are many times a direct result of people who are “blessed”, “positive”, “abundant” or whatever else you want to call it. In today’s world there are huge profits being made on the backs of workers locked in a factories in Communist China. For stockholders this provides abundance and may make them happy and appreciative to the universe but where is the responsibility for the misery promoted by the money invested in the stock that is producing stockholder abundance at the expense of the misery and suffering of others. Allowing oneself to have no need to know the dirty gritty details in the profit making by refusing to look under the covers and know what is really going on does not make the person living in ignorant bliss any less culpable. The way I see it the premise being promoted as the secret to being happy is to just make sure you don’t see, hear or speak of the suffering of others that allows the universe to provide.

The ability to share what you already have an abundance of that allows you to buy your friends and family bigger and better presents or share in your good fortune with them may make you have a lot of people who like you, but it does not make you a good person. People who refuse to deal with the negative because it will ruin their good positive energy see only what they want to see. Seeing only the good makes it easy to believe that you created your outcome and in fact you may have but blaming the individual for whom the universe does not provide for their lot in life without looking at what your participation or non-participation has manifested for them is wrong, irresponsible and selfish.

Allowing one-self to believe that the universe provides and modeling this behavior or promoting this belief for a younger generation in my opinion is very dangerous. The premise that I find most disturbing is that an individual who does not have their needs met is not consciously attempting to manifest their wants, desires or needs and therefore they deserve the outcome they get and should learn from it. This is a very convenient way for those who have abundance to feel no responsibility. It is not only wrong but also short sighted. I can assure you a starving child would manifest food for them-selves if they could. The reality of the situation is that the starving child is in a bad situation because of the failure of society. Those who could have helped that child but did not because they expect the universe to provide are just as responsible for this neglect as those who knowingly made money by taking advantage of people who are desperate.

This picutre of a starving child is a good example. The cameraman who took this picture sat for 20 minutes waiting to take the picture because he had hopes that the vulture would spread its wings. While he waited this child suffered. The vulture didn’t raise its wings so the photographer snapped the picture. This picture won him a Pulitzer Prize. Did the universe provide him with an opportunity for a Pulitzer Prize winning picture or did he take advantage of the suffering of a child? When later asked about what he did about the child it came out that he had done nothing. It has been reported that there was a food station that he could have carried the child to, but he did not. Some say he saw his inaction as professional distance, I call it self-centered. Apparently so did others, it appears he was widely criticized for doing nothing, which apparently resulted in his suicide a year later. Some believe that his suicide was not because of angst over his lack of action to help the child but because he could not take the ridicule of those who felt he exploited the child for his own benefit. I don’t know what the cause was but in looking at his actions it would make sense to me to conclude that his ego was the reason for his suicide, I hope for the sake of his soul that I’m wrong.

In the world we live in today a child may very well be in a similar situation due to the bad actors who have invaded her country, exploited her country’s resources or repressed or killed her people in the name of progress and consumerism. We all have a responsibility to know the true cost of those things we consume or those things that we perceive as the universe providing.

My experience with people who practice “abundance principals” is that they don’t do negative, don’t do politics and cut anyone out of their lives they view as negative. This behavior translates to not taking responsibility for the very system from which they derive their abundance, regardless of who it hurts or whether or not it is just. While people practicing “abundance” are busy enjoying their lives and ignoring the negative a lot of bad things are happening.

In our country today many hard working people are loosing jobs, homes, healthcare and lives while the Wall Street thieves who created this situation get bailed out with our money and are now using that money and influence to blame others and block their own prosecutions. A few very wealthy people have gained control of our government, media and legal system this situation has allowed them to make formerly illegal financial manipulations legal. These people/corporations have stolen and continue to steal all of the money that anyone in the working class has accumulated either individually, in benefit plans, home equity or entitlement programs which they have paid into their whole lives. Our country has been and continues to be sold off piece by piece. The Wall Street thieves need to be held accountable and people “not doing politics” need to be part of the solution not part of the problem, sitting idly by is not acceptable.

It is very important for people to wake up to the reality of our situation and to the attitudes that have contributed to the lack of action on the part of citizens to stand up to injustice in our country and by extension the rest of the world. Every day in our country and in the wider world terrible policies that provide cheap goods and/or high profits are being enacted without pushback from people who excuse themselves from the responsibility of how these things are provided to them. This has gone on so long it’s now accepted that we in the United States are fueling the largest Communist Government in the world, communist China. While consumers love those low prices they ignore the slave like working conditions that lead to suicides every day in Chinese factories. While everyone is busy enjoying their good fortune our country has been sold out lock, stock and barrel. The US has had a corporate coup d'état. All of this is being done in the name of money. Everything being pushed by the media is based on money; it’s all about the money. This is wrong and this must stop.

Many people practicing the “abundance principal” who may read this as well as the young people who are looking at this belief as something they would like to emulate should give some thought to what . Mohandas Gandhi said “There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.” In my opinion the “abundance principal” promotes greed and indifference and an infantile desire to have all of our needs met without any responsibility or work. Unfortunatley greed exists in all of us to what degree we allow it to control our lives is up to us.

It is the responsibility of those who see injustices and systems that allow others to turn a blind eye injustice to point it out. Of course this is going to make people uncomfortable, the reason people avoid looking at injustice is that it makes them uncomfortable. Looking away however only allows it to grow. Excusing oneself from dealing with the ugly, hard, sad parts of life has greatly contributed to the terrible situation we now find the world in. It is a false premise to conclude that those who the universe does not provide for are not following this principal or somehow made a choice that resulted in their sad situation. Yes, people make bad decisions but so do societies and as a society we are all responsible. In my opinion the abundance principal is simply a get out of jail free card to allow people to turn a blind eye to injustice and allow the blaming of the victims. The situation of the starving child, ignored by those who are too busy being happy with what the Universe is providing, still sucks. In this situation the photographer was so caught up in what the universe was providing for him in the form of an opportunity for a picture he was blinded to the possibility that perhaps the universe had provided him for the child to be taken for the care she needed. When people are not paying attention to what is happening in our society because they don't want to be negative, they are in effect allowing these bad things to happen to others all around them. This loophole in the abundance principal allows one to say "I don't do politics", "people make choices" or the Universe provides.

The apathy and silence of people enjoying their lives since the introduction of the secret, abundance principal or whatever else you want to call it has been deafening. It’s understandable that people want to enjoy their time now rather than getting involved in a huge fight in which they will be criticized and may not win. This summer there were many times where I thought maybe I should just go ride my bike and enjoy what I would normally do and let the chips fall where they may. Why not most everyone else is, this is too hard. What if I spend what time I have left fighting this fight and loose all of my nows by worrying about tomorrow? Then I look at my grandson or my children and think of those who came before me and how if they had not stood up none of what I have enjoyed would have been possible, so I fight.

Working people in this country need to pull together to preserve a future for our children and grandchildren. There are very few extrodarinarily wealthy people controlling the Austerity Agenda around the world through many manipulations and lies. These are today’s Robber Barons; we need to stand up to them together if we are to have a decent future and a democracy. I hope you all seriously consider joining the occupy movement to put the running of our country back into the hands of the people. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is proposing 2 draconian ordinances that are intended to intimidate and stop dissent.The ordinances will be presented to the city council committees on Tuesday, Jan 17 and, if they pass the committees, will be up for a vote of the entire city council on Wednesday, Jan 18. If they pass, they become effective in 10 days.

Here are some of the changes:

* Virtually every street protest in the downtown would be designated a “large parade” requiring $1 million liability insurance and for organizers to “agree to reimburse the city for any damage to the public way or to city property arising out of or caused by the parade”;

* Large parade or not, organizers would be required to provide the city with “a description of any recording equipment, sound amplification equipment, banners, signs, or other attention-getting devices to be used in connection with the parade” at least a week in advance of the march;

* Every contingent in the march and the order in which they would appear would have to be registered at least a week in advance with the City;

* Demonstration organizers would be required to have one marshal for every 100 participants; and,

* Under a wholly new section of the municipal code (10-8-334), even gatherings on sidewalks, with no presence in the streets, would now be subject to demands that they get permits, giving the City extraordinary latitude to dictate what union and other pickets occur or get shut down by police action.
